Transmedia

Yearbook of 2023

In our second year of our degree we are tasked with planning the Transmedia Event which is where family and friends of the students come to see what we've been up to for the past year. We also invite industry professionals in hopes some of the students will make connections throughout the day, helping them longterm. I put myself forward to design and produce the yearbook which will feature everyone taking a degree under the digital media design cohort, and featuring the staff members who have taught us. In my team I had Imogen who I have worked with on several group projects now and we work amazingly together, the collabration is really strong and we can lean on each other a lot. I completed the belbin test to understand what role I can bring to our team. I am a shaper which provides the necessary drive to ensure that the team continues to go forward and maintains the focus or momentum. Therefore, it made sense for our group that I become project manager of the yearbook team.

Credits to Keira Geary for branding guidelines

For the main design on the Transmedia Yearbook we had to follow previous branding guidelines provided by Keira in semester one. Thankfully, she provided everything at the beginning including Illustrator files that I could easily use for InDesign. I wanted to keep it very consistent to her original branding and completely mimic what I think Keira would have envisioned. I had provided the class with two options for the front cover of the yearbook, they all decided they like the first one which I then finialised adding some details.

Now we had established a layout design, I then designed the covers of each year group in the different colours of our theme. For the student pages I came up with a tier system which helped us prepare for students who didn't want to submit anything, it also acted as an encouragement for more submissions as the more they submitted, the more space they would have on the page.

SDG 17

We were to consider how we can plan and implement entrepreneurial projects relevant to UN Sustainable Development Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). It can apply as the event concentrates on providing students with the platform to promote their work, i.e. decent work. By providing students with networking abilities to promote themselves we are also allowing economic growth as a lot students do not achieve jobs straight out of university whereas this event can help achieve future prospects for graduates. A lot of the projects produced by students also highlight how we can solve problems focused by the UN goals. These conversations at the event can achieve raising awareness and increasing chances of opportunities being available in helping these goals in the future.

The project was a success in general, and while it's unfortunate that so few individuals participated, we are grateful to those who did. The yearbook turned out fantastic, and I couldn't be happier with how well we collaborated as a group. In addition, I am delighted with how we were able to complete this task within a reasonable amount of time, maintaining our commitment to the initial deadline for submissions.
